Fake Art Museum
There is only one genuine Fake Art Museum and that is at Vledder in the lovely region of Saxonia, the Freestate for Epicures. You find it in Southwest Drenthe. The Vledder Mona Lisa could be touched with impunity. If you touch the real one in the Louvre you might be shot. Everything expensive is forged: gold jewels, precious stones, expensive brands of clothing, Breitling- and Rolex watches, banknotes, coins, Egyptian mummies, the Portland Vase, Hitler's diaries and of course: paintings. There are more forged Van Goghs than authentic ones. Criminals find lots of ways to cheat their victims.
Some of the best known forgers of the Netherlands:
- Han van Meegeren: in the 1930's and 40's he successfully forged Jan Vermeer, the famous Dutch old master.
- Geert Jan Jansen: Some years ago he was arrested on a French castle with 1600 contemporary masters, all forgeries, among them Picasso, Matisse, Chagall and Karel Appel.
Both master-forgers are to be seen in Vledder next to dozens of others, sometimes with authentic work under their own name. Forgeries and dubious works of art (attributed to). The museum shows other works bearing the signature of:
Jan Sluyters
Leo Gestel
Hobbema
Mondriaan
Toorop
Picasso
Dali
Karel Appel
James Ensor
Max Slevogt
Emil Nolde
Lovis Corinth
Matisse
There are also some copies of the American sculptor Frederic Remington and the famous Frenchman Rodin (Le penseur).
Forgers are usually limited people, who are not good enough to be a success on their own account. What to make of a Filarski forger who sign Filarki? It is often extremely difficult to identify a forgery, especially if you do not know what to pay attention to. If you do not know the way of forgers. A crucial question is how to avoid buying a forgery yourself at the price of a real one. A guided tour by one of our experts seems indispensable. You'll get one and it won't cost you a lot of money; it is free! Here and there we have installed instructive dvd presentations you might consider useful.

| A work by the well-known French forger David Stein. He made it in prison. A reason to sign it under his own name with the title: A la manière de Van Dongen. Therefore not a Van Dongen forgery, but a genuine David Stein. | ![]() |
